Upes baseina shematisks attēlojums. Ar zilām līnijām apzīmēta upe ar tās pietekām, bet ar raustītu brūno līniju - ūdensšķirtne. Baseini iedalās noteces un beznoteces baseinos. Beznoteces baseins ir tāds baseins, kurš atrodas kontinenta iekšienē un nav savienots ar okeānu.
